About SRPEDD In cooperation with MassDOT, SRPEDD is responsible for the planning and programming of all modes of transportation including highways, public transit, freight, bicycles, and pedestrians. Our work is regionally based, but community focused. We work to formulate and implement plans that will achieve quality of life improvements, and to ensure that these plans reflect the expressed needs of our 4 Gateway cities and 23 towns. SRPEDD also provides technical assistance to our cities and towns and to the region's two transit authorities, Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority(GATRA) and Southeastern RegionalTransit Authority (SRTA). SRPEDD’s office, based in Taunton, MA, is currently operating under a flexible, hybrid work policy. Position Summary/Duties SRPEDD’s Transportation Department is seeking a self-starting team player who enjoys collaborating, as well as working independently, and is resourceful enough to take the initiative on projects. Under the supervision of the Transportation Planning Manager the planner performs a variety of transit focused tasks. The transportation planner acts as a creative and technical assistant on numerous plans, studies, public engagement, and other work products. The position requires an understanding of principles, practices, and methods of transportation planning. Program specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Cultivate relationships with the SMMPO’s Regional Transit Authorities.
Coordinate with Regional Transit Authorities regarding general needs, funding sources and allocations, asset management, project development and performance targets.
Conduct transit and transportation data collection and analysis, including air quality analysis for replacement buses.
Analyze transit passenger survey data and prepare reports based on findings.
Assist with bus route evaluations.
Conduct transit and transportation planning related studies.
Communicate with the public and public organizations to identify unmet transportation needs.
Participate in neighborhood and local meetings, and other public outreach to inform and engage the public with regards to transit.
Assist with improving public outreach and participation, especially in under-served populations and/or neighborhoods.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with elected officials, co- workers, other professionals, and the general public.
Communicate with private carriers on unmet needs and the development of potential projects.
Reestablish and manage the South East Regional Coordinating Council on Transportation (SERCCOT).
Attend Regional Transit Authority board meetings. Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, geography, or related field and a minimum of one to two years in a professional capacity. A graduate degree may offset required experience.
Transit experience, related to passenger surveys, bus route evaluations, Transit Asset Management Plans and Performance Measures a plus.
Strong analytical abilities and creative problem-solving skills and community engagement expertise essential.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other visualization software as well as an eye for graphic design desired.
A valid driver’s license, personal transportation, and a clean driving record required, with an agency vehicle available for field work.
While SRPEDD does not have a residency requirement, preference will be given to residents of SRPEDD member municipalities. Salary and Benefits $50,000 to $57,000 to start. May be filled at a higher level, depending upon qualifications.
